Who is the next Super power??

Irrespective of how civilized and globalized human society becomes but always there are nation(s) which we called as super power. Sometimes a single country or some times two or three but it is the history that there always exists one.

Main factor of becoming a super power is off course the economy, but there are lot of other aspects as well which are equally important and crucial such as global importance, political influence, electronic and print media, armed forces, culture and fashion, work force etc.

If we look at the current scenario, after the dissolution of USSR, USA was the stand out super power. It had its influence on the world right from the word go. We have seen the wars, we have seen the advancement in science and technology, lot of political and geographical changes in last few decades and no doubt USA has proved itself the super power.

No one can remain on top forever and I think the recent recession of USA economy and financial turmoil is a beginning of an end. Might not be in near future but definitely this will eventually happen. But question is who will be the next super power after USA? In my view point following can be

China: the way its economy is growing remains a main threat for west, but I think two main factors are major obstacle for China to become the Super power. One is communism and other is language barrier. I had a discussion with my friend (Rasheed) some time back on this and he had some interesting facts as well to prove this point.

Australia: very versatile and diverse country (one of my fav) but constant droughts remains the main threat for their agriculture and fall in the economy remains the daunting threat, as it is evident in government policies.

Pakistan: I would love to see Pakistan coming front, though we have everything which is required but all we need is to put all together and become a one nation. Political instability, law and order and nexus of neighbors remain the main problem.

India: for my money India has the great chance to become the next super power, rest aside the poverty otherwise it has everything which is needed. It has Growing economy, work force, migrants all over the world, advancement in technology, influence of armed forces, political influence, sports influence (IPL etc), and the culture.

That’s all for the time being, I might write more on Pakistan and India but till then…

Cheers

Great article. Why do exclude Russia? Just because it became a world power and failed once, does not mean it cant spring back to become one again. Communism is really not a impediment to becoming a super power. It was communism that allowed China to grow that big and manage its one billion people. They were'nt such a power in pre-communism times, even though the people are same.

Pakistan has no chance or becoming one unless there is a nuclear war between all big powers and they all decimate each other and Pakistan is left a big power among the remaining small.

Not Australia, because their ambition and progress is just not big enough.

Can EU be counted among a single power?

Russia is not the same like it was earlier and its most of its important assets are now part of central Asian countries like Ukraine etc. Presence of these states also broke the geographical influence of Russia towards south Asia and middle east.

EU can be a single power but only economically since they have only currency as commonality.

about AU, they have potential but not vision to that extent.

PAK im sorry to say an under-performed and unorganized nation. we have every potential but its just a matter to collectiveness rather than individualism.
